Full Definition
An additional insured is a person or organization added to a liability insurance policy by endorsement, providing them with liability coverage for claims arising out of the named insured's operations. Additional insured endorsements are commonly required in construction (owners added to contractor's policy), real estate (landlords added to tenant's policy), and vendor/supplier relationships. The scope of additional insured coverage varies by endorsement form — some provide 'ongoing operations' coverage only, while broader forms include 'completed operations' coverage. Additional insured status does not make the additional insured a party to the contract or give them policy control.
